Group Exhibition | Francis Commeyne, Nathalie Dagmang, Antipas Delotavo, Lui Gonzales, Is Jumalon, Manny Montelibano, MM Yu
Tin-aw Art Gallery
9 February – 2 March 2019
Group exhibition Bullish opens on 9 February, Saturday, 6pm at Tin-aw Art Gallery. Featuring works of Francis Commeyne, Nathalie Dagmang, Antipas Delotavo, Lui Gonzales, Is Jumalon, Manny Montelibano, and MM Yu, the exhibition contemplates on the repercussions and ripples of financial optimism from the peripheries. Represented here are the dynamic disruptions of progress and growth foregrounded with the discards of conspicuous consumption in its pursuit.
Central to the exhibition is the bull — a symbol of determination — but also a threat, a wild brutish force impossible to rein. Obeying a preordained logic, Bullish discusses these ebbs and flows from atmospheric heights to subterranean crashes. From the wake of market unpredictability, emerging third world realities, and consumer excess, how does one overcome loss and how does one celebrate gains? Mechanisms of finance meet the grime of the streets. Where do we stand in this? Does one remain in naïve optimism? The symbols of finance may exist in rarefied heights but its consequences trickle down to the soil of the earth.
The group exhibiton opens on 9 February 2019 (Saturday) at 6pm at Tin-aw Art Gallery and will run from 9 February to 2 March 2019.
